NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES

HISTORY

CORR Off Road History From as early as 1983, Toyota's off road racing program achieved unparalleled success in sold-out stadiums and faraway deserts throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

Toyota's partnership with Precision Preparation, Inc., (PPI) produced immediate results in the Mickey Thompson Stadium Off Road Racing (MTEG) Series. Over the 13-year history of the popular stadium series, talented racers such as Ivan "Ironman" Stewart, Rod and Steve Millen, Robby Gordon and Jeff Huber proved dominant in Toyota's 11 MTEG Manufacturer's Championships and nine driver's titles.

Toyota enjoyed unrivaled stadium success throughout the series' storied history. Ultimately, the manufacturer registered 50 overall victories, nine driver's championships (Stewart, Rod and Steve Millen, and Gordon) and 11 manufacturer's titles dating from 1983 to 1994.

The off road program with PPI soon expanded to include mini- and mid-size pickup trucks in the ever-growing desert competition series. Rapid success, highlighted by Toyota's first Baja 500 victory and four SCORE World Championships, established an early dominance in desert off road racing.

In the harsh hinterlands of Baja and the American Southwest, Toyota's desert successes were unmatched from 1983 to 2000. Behind the legendary driving of the "Ironman," Toyota earned 34 victories, 10 championships, 11 Baja 500 wins, and one Baja 1000 title.

To support the efforts of competitors in the SCORE International Off Road Racing series, Toyota established the Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards 22 years ago in 1986.
Toyota's Off Road Racing program has continued the company's outstanding success in the world of off road truck racing. Toyota Tacomas have dominated the Pro-Lite class, winning seven consecutive driver's championships (eight overall). Johnny Greaves (Pro-Lite and Pro 4 class) and Jeff Kincaid (Pro-Lite class), from Greaves/Kincaid Motorsports, have each claimed numerous titles between 1997 and 2007 - five for Kincaid and seven for Greaves.
